I am Serene...

In 2011, while working at the desk of an investment firm, answering calls of customers, I looked out the window one morning and said to myself, "This is not it for me, there has to be something else than answering stock market questions all day!" The thought came to my mind that I loved to host parties, love to entertain people and have a creative flare to my personality... Then, wondered during my 10 seconds break it seemed, lol... if planning events was something I could actually do full time. Now, let’s be real! As a single African American woman, I was very scared about stepping out on faith, leaving my full time, benefit offering, job to a part time position where the income was less than almost half of what I was accustomed too. I WAS SCARED YA'LL! Petrified even! But as I am a firm believer in Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior I had to believe that he would provide for me, as this was my dream job!

 

Well, at first I said I wanted to be a wedding planner so I created Serene Events but then I said, No I want to plan all kinds of events and somehow bring my love and experience with the world of preforming arts to the mix! Whelp, that’s then were I added on Management and Productions to the company name!

 

I started my research, discovered that not only could I go back to school for event planning but that I could receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism, Conventions and Event Management from Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis. But, I hit a MAJOR HICCUP! This program was not for a working adult. I applied anyway and enrolled into summer classes, left that investment firm that fall and never looked back.  

 

Alumni as of December 2015, I am excited to RE-launch Serene Events with a new face, market brand and mission for the company. To date we have planned weddings, graduation parties, skating fundraisers, and formal party events for clients.  I have made mistakes but learned from them by creating better processes to secure proficient event planning. Every detail covered and flawless execution. My true testimony of just how God kept me through this process is too much to even write but right when I was ready to throw in the towel, my amazing family and Sorors (Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.) kept me focused and encouraged me with reminders of the VISION that I have set for this company and not to give up!  Thank you for taking a moment to visit our page and may the Lord continue to rain blessing upon you!
